The Philosophy of Healing

When one thinks of taking a holistic approach to health and life, the first thought that occurs to many is to identify the right things or find the super ingredients which can magically clear and unclutter our body systems. We also expect to see some instant results after we include these super ingredients. There is so much info everywhere around us on so many new ingredients being recognized as super foods and we include them unmindfully in to our routine without any observation to the changes it causes to our life. It is important to understand that, every ingredient we add to our body and life has an impact on us.

Imagine a situation where a bunch of people in similar economic situation are given a million dollar each to spend. The way each of them would spend the money would be very different. Someone may be spending on their short term needs and luxuries, someone on long term goals, someone just wants to save it. One’s mindset sets their priorities and influences their actions. But it is interesting that our mindset also determines the way we use the resources we consume. There is a complex decision process which prioritizes what to use, how to use, what to save for later. If our mind is going to play an important role in prioritizing the resources for healing, it is in our interest to keep our mindset consciously clean and positive to focus on things important to us. It may be important to avoid negative situations and thoughts effecting your mindset.

Imagine another situation of a compulsive shopper. It is a disorder where one buys everything and anything without a real need. The place where they live would be filled with items which may never be used. From such a busy place, it gets extremely hard to find anything one may need. Organizing such a place, consumes ones time and energy (vital resources). All of us who rely on multivitamins and unmindfully overconsume ingredients for the sake of good health are in this situation. That’s the reason its hard to answer if multivitamins and other fancy ingredients are truly useful to us on a daily basis. Our Blood is the main transport system we rely on and keeping it in saturation makes it inefficient.

Over nutrition has been linked to inducing metabolic risk factors and the foundation for metabolic syndrome. When adipose tissue fails to store all excess nutrients as triglyceride, lipid begins to accumulate in various tissues like muscles, liver, pancreas and heart. This accumulation is called ectopic lipid which is detrimental in many tissues. Oxidation helps to break down the excess lipid in the tissues. Overnutrition is more nutrient intake than that can be safely disposed by lipid oxidation. More than half of obese population, may have accumulation of ectopic lipid. Lean people are not exempt from this risk.

To have a clean functional system, anything we consume has to be on a need basis in the right quantities, taken at the right times, included in our system through the right process of cooking. Saturation of our system with nutrients is as worse as malnutrition. Lets get conscious about our eating habits, learn to carefully orchestrate the nutrient portfolio and enjoy the rhythm. Keep the observation of your own body and mind.

Good information Jyothi. It’s a very dangerous path of loading us with over multi nutrients. Keeping it simple and whole has a lot more new meaning on food intake for body and brain…
